In my defense, I picked this up at a used book store for thirty cents. I should have left it there.
All I knew about the book at the time was that it involved a badass goth chick who is raped by a man and later plots her revenge and rapes him as punishment. Sorry to spoil anything for you. I had also heard that both the book and the movie were extremely graphic. This didn’t bother me much going into it, as gore never as compromised a good read for me.
Anyway, I could not get past the first 100 pages of this novel. I read about 25 and put it down. A few weeks later I willed myself to read the next 75 and I’ve officially decided not to pick it back up again. I don’t know what it is, but I just found this book incredibly dry. I could not get through it. It’s based in Sweden, and I could not get past half of the names, let alone the towns. In my opinion, Larsson is too wrapped up in details and some copy editor somewhere should have told him just to get to the damn point of the story. The exposition just droned on and on and on….I couldn’t handle it.
I’m sure the novel would have been better if I had the will to keep going, but I just didn’t. The book was so dull.
Anyway, if you’ve actually read this book and were able to stomach it, let me know what you thought! Does the dull exposition ever take a turn for the better, or is the entire book as dry as its opening? Let me know!
